The Hong Kong Arts Practitioners Prize supports outstanding students in undergraduate and postgraduate history studies. The award is aimed at encouraging students to explore diverse aspects of Hong Kong’s history, while promoting public awareness about the importance of local history in international development efforts. The prize also offers recognition, support and encouragement to young artists to pursue their creative work or arts projects. It also provides increased international visibility through top-tier media coverage.
A controversial movie about Hong Kong’s future in the hands of Beijing won a top prize at the city’s film awards. Ten Years, made up of vignettes based on residents’ worst fears for the semi-autonomous city as China tightens its grip, was a hit locally but antagonised Beijing. Major Chinese TV channels pulled out of broadcasting the awards, reportedly over Beijing’s displeasure with the film.
In 2022, BOCHK established the Science and Technology Innovation Prize with a mission to boost Hong Kong’s scientific research atmosphere and nurture forward-thinking scientists, while building Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub. The Prize encourages academic researchers to persist in innovative exploration, build careers here in Hong Kong, serve the nation and contribute to society globally.
Winners of this award will have the opportunity to present their ideas to key stakeholders in the development sector, helping Hong Kong to become a leading global centre for sustainable and international business. The prizes are backed by the Government, and each category has its own independent judging panel. The preliminary judging process will be carried out by the respective judging panels before a shortlist of applicants will be selected to go through to the final judging.
