The Hong Kong Prize is one of the world’s top writing contests, with monetary prizes and the chance to showcase your work at an awards ceremony. Thousands of writers enter this competition every year, and winning it can help you establish yourself within the industry and build up a strong portfolio. The Prize was established in 1996 by friends of the late Dr John D Young to provide an incentive for undergraduate and postgraduate students to study Hong Kong history. The aim is to encourage and promote a broad range of research topics in this field, with a particular emphasis on highlighting the diverse and fascinating aspects of the city’s past.
Winners will receive an engraved gold medal and a cash prize of HK$25,000, and may have the opportunity to present their research at conferences or seminars, providing them with an international platform to share their knowledge of Hong Kong’s unique heritage with a wider audience. They will also be given the opportunity to join a networking group of Hong Kong-based scholars and researchers to discuss their future career plans.
The judging panel, consisting of academics and business professionals, will evaluate the applicants based on their scientific research accomplishments, and how they have been applied to create social or economic value. The winners will be announced in May 2022. BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE’s Board is responsible for reviewing and interpreting the articles of the Charter, suggesting important scientific research fields for THE PRIZE, appointing members to the Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team, and setting requirements on nominating experts; all the decisions of the Board regarding THE PRIZE are final.
The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize was launched in 2022, with the mission of attracting world-class scientists to Hong Kong and supporting them to form an active science and technology hub. The Prize is open to scientists from Southeast Asia, mainland China, or anywhere in the world who wish to apply. It has attracted an increasing number of applications from HKUST researchers, especially in the areas of artificial intelligence, life and health, new materials and energy, advanced manufacturing, and FinTech. The Prize is awarded to not more than five persons (or teams) per award field. A maximum of three field rewards can be granted in a year. The Board of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Prize has the right to withdraw the prize, certificate and trophy if any of the recipients violate the provisions of the Charter. The Prize is funded by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited.
